What is FIRST?
FIRST is an organization which helps foster education for youths. They have numerous programs to that help build a foundation into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related fields. FIRST is an acronym, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Its a program designed to inspire students to pursue careers in engineering
Below is a list of the programs FISRT represents.
High School – Geared towards high school students this is a real world battle
Middle School – Geared as a fundamental program to prepare students for the FRC
Late Elementary – Designed to build on the experience of the Lego League Jr.
Early Elementary – Designed to peak interest in discovery and creativity
FIRST in Michigan
The program was founded by Dean Kaman in 1989 and has since grown into a multi-national organization. Michigan has been a leader in the FIRST program with nearly 550 FRC teams and growing.
In addition to the FRC teams, Michigan has become one of the early adopters of all the programs FIRST offers. Milan, MI is one of those early adopters having seen the benefits of the program and its positive effect on the students.
